And now about Holly Jolly Courtship.
Yep, it's based on the true story of how my parents met. Only thing is, they met 70 years after this story is set, and instead of driving a new buggy, my dad was driving his first new car. Another difference is that Mom lived with another sister, but she wasn't enthused about a 15 year-old girl dating a 20 year-old man, so Mom moved to her other sister's house. The story take place over a few weeks and ends at Christmas, but the real story took a year to get to that point, and another year before they actually married.
I've wanted to write this story for a long time but didn't because it seems so implausible. Yet, it really did happen, along with a few more incidents that I didn't have room in the limited word count to include that were just as implausible.
I never tire of hearing family stories. They're always so fun and so special. I hope you enjoy this story and the 18 others in Christmas Caring II: A Christmas Charity Short Story Anthology. And thank you for supporting the Legacy Initiative of Utah.

#grainfree #sugarfree Peanut Butter Cookies from Mercedes's Kitchen
Mercedes Christesen's
Fabulous Peanut Butter Cookies
Grain-free! Sugar-free!
I've been grain-free for nearly two years now. No, I don't feel deprived and yes, I actually enjoy my new way of eating. I especially enjoy greater freedom of movement and I definitely don't miss those dreadful sinus headaches.
But hey, everyone loves cookies. So my daughter took it upon herself to develop a cookie recipe that I could enjoy. And do I ever!
Mercedes agreed to share her recipe with everyone. I hope you enjoy it, and please, if you repost, give her credit. This is her very first published recipe and she deserves a pat on the back. I'm really proud of her.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
NOTE: All ingredients are approximations!
- 16 oz sugar-free peanut butter (either chunky or creamy, your choice)
- 2 cubes butter (1/2 pound)
- splash vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 1/8 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
- about 10 pkts of Stevia
- 3/4-1c coconut flour
Mix the first 8 ingredients in a bowl until semi-fluffy, then add the coconut flour a little at a time until you have a loose cake batter or thick pancake batter.
Let sit and firm up about 20-30 minutes.
Roll into balls, place on greased baking sheet, then gently cross hatch.
Bake at 425 8-12 min just until browned. (Remember, ovens vary.)
And there you go! They go great with a chocolate protein shake. Just sayin'.

#mailorderbride I HEARD THE BRIDES ON CHRISTMAS DAY #newrelease #western #romance #HeartsOfOwyhee
New Release!
by Jacquie Rogers
As part of the Prairie Rose Publications Third Birthday Bash, they've released a bunch of new novellas, including I Heard the Brides on Christmas Day. You can win your choice of two of these new releases at the Prairie Rose Publications blog.
About the story:
The Murdock brothers have a fine ranch in Owyhee County, Idaho. The only things missing are wives and kids, so Hec orders a couple of brides for Christmas. The catch is, woman-shy Zeke doesn't know about it. Dinah and Stella have a plan— If the grooms don’t work out, they’ll start a restaurant. Farm chores are hard enough, but a peckish chicken and a raging blizzard don’t help matters. Can Hec and Zeke capture their hearts?
How it came about:
I love Christmas stories all year around. Christmas and romance go together so well, because it's the season for giving, sharing, and loving.
So what would the ultimate gift be that a man could give his brother? Lifelong happiness with the woman of his dreams. That's how I came up with the idea that Hec Murdock could order Christmas brides for himself and his brother.
And what happens when two city women end up in remote Owyhee County in Idaho Territory? What if they had to do farm chores? They'd have no idea how to go about it. Well, Dinah and Stella are in that boat, but if nothing else, they're determined to make a life for themselves in the West, whether it's with the Murdock brothers or on their own.
I grew up on a farm so I actually have done all these chores, but many readers have asked how to go about them, so here it is right here in this novella. I had a lot of fun thinking of things that could go wrong.
Hearts of Owyhee series
All the Hearts of Owyhee novels and novellas are set in Owyhee County, Idaho Territory. "Owyhee" is the original anglicized spelling of Hawaii, and the area was named after some fur trappers from the Sandwich Islands were lost there in 1819.

American Mail-Order Brides series #43
This series is unprecedented! 50 States, 50 Brides--yep, 50 Books written by 45 Authors, and released one book each day starting November 19th. Well, the wait is over because Mercy is finally here. All the books, including this one are on the Amazon Kindle Unlimited program so if you're subscribed, you can read the entire series for FREE. (The first four Hearts of Owyhee books are also available in KU.)
Also free to everyone is the Prequel by Kirsten Osbourne, so be sure to pick that up.
I was in Deadwood, SD, when Caroline Clemmons called me and told me I was going to write this book. Yes, that's what friends are for. Ha! I thought it was a crazy idea but if Caroline thought it was a good deal, I was in. The concept came from the awesome (and zany) Kirsten Osbourne, and I thought this series was wild enough that it just might work.
It has!!! So far, American Mail-Order Brides has been a fabulous success and I hope Mercy: Bride of Idaho carries banner, too. Mercy Eaton is the younger sister of Caroline's heroine in Patience: Bride of Washington (American Mail-Order Brides #42), so if you haven't read that book, you'll definitely want to get it.
Mercy: Bride of Idaho
One woman bent on saving her family.
One rancher determined to save his own heart.
Is her love enough to save them all?
So what was happening in 1890? I really didn't know since all my books have been earlier than that so I'd never researched that decade. Here are a few tidbits that I included in this book--some from that time and some from earlier.
Mercy is a seamstress but it seemed only likely that she'd be making her own hats.
I knew that Elias Howe had invented the modern sewing machine but I didn't know that Isaac Singer had been court-ordered to pay royalties to him.
Mercy is a city girl from Lawrence, Massachusetts. Coming to Owyhee County would have been quite a culture shock, both in climate and population.
Mercy: Bride of Idaho is connected to the Hearts of Owyhee series even though it takes place much later, because Jake O'Keefe, the heroine in Much Ado About Mavericks (Hearts of Owyhee #4) is the mentor to the hero. And his ears are still ringing.
I hope you had a wonderful 2015 and a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2016!

#CoverReveal Hot Work in Fry Pan Gulch (Honey Beaulieu-Man Hunter) #western
Hot Work in Fry Pan Gulch
(Honey Beaulieu - Man Hunter)
by Jacquie Rogers
Announcing the cover for Honey's release on March 12, 2016! This series has been percolating in my brain for a long, long time. The original idea file's date stamp is August 16, 1998. That snippet didn't even end up in this book--it'll be in the next book. Honey has undergone a name change, but her character has remained the same. Bits of her has gone into other heroines over the years, but Honey is Honey. Ain't nothin' sweeter.
So why did this take so long to get written? Because it's a genre blend, and utterly unmarketable to the large publishers in 1998. So I traveled a more tried-and-true route. Now, it's time for a bit of Honey. You might say this is a mash-up of Gunsmoke, Sex in the City, and Caspar the Friendly Ghost. I hope you enjoy her.
She's Gritty!
She's Funny!
She's Honey Beaulieu!
Honey Beaulieu grew up in her mama's whorehouse, the Tasty Chicken, which serves up the finest food, whiskey, and women in Wyoming Territory, but Honey takes after her crack shot Pa--and she doesn't back down from anyone or any thing.
She's brash
Determined not to make her living on her back, Honey does her best to keep the peace in Fry Pan Gulch, but a deputy’s salary won't buy her a home. Once she's adopted by a donkey and then a pickle-eating mule, she sets out to collect a bounty on one of the town's annoyances.
She's got brass
The owlhoot leads her on a dangerous chase. Can Honey persevere despite a wise-cracking ghost who manages to disappear when she needs him, and a handsome U.S. deputy marshal who doesn’t seem at all put off that she’s so scrawny?
