Every once in a while you get a hold of a great book that's not getting much buzz, but should. That was the case with
Texas Lightning, Caroline Clemmons's first book in her newest series, Texas Time Travel.

She is determined to send to jail the rustlers who believe they can steal what is hers… until she is caught spying on their dirty works and must ride for her life. Jake Knight believes the attractive woman who stumbled into his home one rainy evening either has amnesia or is certifiably insane. Unless, that is, she is in league with whoever is trying to drive him out of business. Someone is trying to force him to sell his ranch by staging a string of damaging incidents. Jake’s been kept so busy making repairs that he can’t run his ranch. Even if he were stupid enough to wish to sell, the ranch is so firmly entailed that no one can break the conditions.
Jake gradually learns Penny is who she claims, no matter that time travel is supposed to be impossible. They’re locked into a clash that it seems only one of them can win. If an outsider weren’t trying to kill Jake as well as bankrupt him, perhaps he and Penny might be able to reach an agreement. But, there is that treasure….
My Thoughts
Talk about a page turner! Having finished my work for the day, I decided to read a chapter before I went to bed. I had no idea what to expect, although I've read many of Ms. Clemmons's other books and of course knew whatever she wrote, it'd be good. Well. I finally made it to bed at 6am.
The first scene draws you in--action, intrigue, and a set up for a humdinger of a book, but then it all turns left and we're headed a new direction--to the 21st Century. But as a reader, I knew what was going on. Poor Penny didn't have a clue, and even when she did, there was the daunting task of convincing folks that she's over 100 years old.
Jake... sigh. Let's just call him drool-worthy. He has his own share of problems without dealing with a crazy lady who claims she's the real owner of his ranch. I couldn't help but fall in live with this character.
Overall, this is a terrific book and I'll definitely be reading the next one,
Texas Rainbow, which is already out, with a third one promised soon. Congratulations to Caroline Clemmons for creating yet another outstanding series, and congratulations to me because I'm looking forward to reading more awesome Caroline Clemmons books!
